The real point of the internet
According to “Avenue Q”:http://www.avenueq.com/, the bawdy Broadway satire of Sesame Street, the internet is for “porn”:http://www.focusonthefamily.com/. But if you’ve been around long enough in this web-tastic world, you know that the internet is really just an elaborate vehicle for the dissemination of funny pictures. There are the thousands of “lolcatz”:http://www.acc.umu.se/~zqad/cats/ pictures, the “overly cute”:http://cuteoverload.com/ pictures, and now, for some reason published in Russian, the “transportation pictures”:http://onliner.ws/2007/04/09/idiotskaja_chelovecheska_logika.html. I’ve put my favorite below, but it’s well-worth looking at all of them, and then e-mailing them to loved ones. There’s nothing people like more than an inbox full of hilarious pictures, especially if it means they miss an important dental appointment because of it.
A Friendster for the Family Pet
http://www.dogster.com/, without any butt sniffing whatsoever. All Fido needs is your e-mail address (unless he has his own) and your typing skills and he’ll be all ready. My personal favorites include "Doggie Diaries":http://www.dogster.com/diary/dcentral.php, "Dogster Videos":http://www.dogster.com/video/, and on a more serious note, an adoptable dogs search engine. The practical wisdom of children
http://www.bigfatwhale.com/ is a weekly comic strip by Brain McFadden. The subject matter of the comic ranges, but his sometimes dry, sometimes sledge hammer wit pairs well with the Tin Tin-like drawing style. I'd like to specifically draw your attention to his series entitled "Kids say the Most Pragmatic Things" where such nuggets of wisdom can be found as _'Fingerpainting is fun, but I wish the curriculum would better prepare me for a world that stifles creativity'_ or _'Cooties are just a manifestation of boys' sexual insecurities.'_ See the strips "here":http://www.bigfatwhale.com/archives/bfw_251.html and "here":http://www.bigfatwhale.com/archives/bfw_294.html/. Thanks for the link Tommy.
Oh April Fools, You Bring Me Joy
Every year April Fools’ Day delivers wacky internet hijinx, and it seems like each year sites try to outdo themselves and each other. Some of my favorites from today thus far include “Facebook’s”:http://www.facebook.com LivePoke system (which I absolutely wish were real) and “Google’s free in-home, toilet-based broadband”:http://www.google.com/tisp/. More awesomeness to be updated throughout the day! I’ve found my new favorite comedian on YouTube. His comedy is sophisticated, well-timed with the news cycle, and his delivery is perfect. The style reminds me of “ZeFrank”:http://www.zefrank.com/theshow/ but not nearly as manic. You really should check him out, here’s a link to his “video list”:http://www.youtube.com/profile_videos?user=MarkDayComedy on YouTube.
